Aus der Perspektive der Interdisciplinary Legal Studies erforscht Paola Lopez in ihrer Dissertation Fragen der (Un-)Gerechtigkeit des staatlichen Einsatz von KI-Systemen in Bezug auf Individuen.

Die studierte Mathematikerin ist wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Institut für Rechtsphilosophie der Universität Wien und Gastwissenschaftlerin am Weizenbaum-Institut für die vernetzte Gesellschaft in Berlin. Neben ihrer Dissertation hat sie eine Typologie von Bias-Formen in datenbasierten Systemen entwickelt, die erste Analyse des österreichischen AMS-Algorithmus publiziert und den Bias-Diskurs im Kontext von Twitters Image-Cropping-Algorithmus untersucht. Darüber hinaus wird sie als Speakerin und Expertin angefragt, etwa durch die Vereinigung der Österreichischen Richterinnen und Richter, das Deutsche Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz und die Bayerische Landeszentrale für politische Bildungsarbeit. Auch durch Podcastauftritte, Zeitungsinterviews und interdisziplinäre Lehrveranstaltungen für Kunst-, Mathe- und Lehramt-Studierende engagiert sie sich in der Vermittlung ihrer Forschungsthemen.

From the perspective of Interdisciplinary Legal Studies, Paola Lopez explores in her dissertation questions of the (in)justice of the state's use of AI systems in relation to individuals.

The mathematics graduate is a research associate at the Institute for Philosophy of Law at the University of Vienna and a visiting scholar at the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society in Berlin. In addition to her dissertation, she has developed a typology of bias forms in data-based systems, published the first analysis of the Austrian AMS algorithm and examined the bias discourse in the context of Twitter's image-cropping algorithm. In addition, she is requested as a speaker and expert, for example by the Association of Austrian Judges, the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence and the Bavarian State Agency for Civic Education. She also engages in communicating her research topics through podcast appearances, newspaper interviews and interdisciplinary courses for art, maths and teacher training students.
