Who will be AI Newcomer 2021?

2021, 28 outstanding young AI scientists, artists and professionals from 5 different disciplines will stand for the election of the AI Newcomers. 

After the end of the public voting, the candidates will be evaluated by a jury. The final 10 AI Newcomers 2021 will be awarded at the KI-Camp. 

 

 

FAQ

Only persons who are under 35 years of age (by 13.12.2020) whose academic or artistic work has a clear reference to AI, and who is affiliated at a German institution can be nominated. It does not matter whether they do so in the context of an activity at a university, research institution, in a company, association or foundation.

The nomination is made online using the nomination form. Anyone can nominate as many people as they wish, provided they meet the specified criteria. Self-nominations are possible as well. When making a nomination, the nominees must be assigned to one of the five disciplines listed.
At the end of the nomination phase (December 20, 2020 at 23:59:59) the GI KI-Camp team will create shortlists of 6 newcomer per category from all nominations (half of them persons, who consider themselves as female). 
The selection of the final 10 AI Newcomers will be a two-part process: From the shortlists, 2 AI Newcomers per category can be selected from the shortlists by a public online voting process from February 1 to March 7, 2021 (1 female/diverse | 1 male/diverse). In addition, a jury will select the 2 most promising individuals (1 female/divers | 1 male/divers) per discipline. The results of the audience voting and the jury voting will be finally calculated in a ratio of 30:70.

The jury consists of two GI representatives, one expert from the respective discipline, a science journalist and two incumbent AI Newcomers. All jury members will be announced online in January. 

One AI Newcomer per category may be selected by the online voting process. Voting starts on February 01, 2021 on the event website and is open to everbody. 

The voting ends on March 07, 2021 at 23:59:59.

The winners of the AI Newcomers program will be announced at and be part of the KI-Camp on April 27th in Berlin. There  they the will be given the chance to present their work to a large audience in the format of a 'Science Slam‘, a short entertaining presentation, and will receive an official certificate.

The purpose of the AI Newcomers award is to make visible new talents who have already achieved outstanding success in the various fields of research and activity in the field of AI and who can be expected to have a significant influence on AI research in the future. The goal is to demystify AI technologies and to open up the topic to a broad public. To this end, a clear focus is placed on involving the public in the nomination and voting phase.
