Dr. Alexandra Anikina

Senior Lecturer in Media Practices, Winchester School of Art (University of Southampton)

Dr Alexandra (Sasha) Anikina is a media theorist and artist whose work focuses on image politics, algorithmic and AI imaginaries, feminist STS and technological conditions of knowledge production, governance, labour and affect. She is Senior Lecturer in Media Practices at Winchester School of Art (University of Southampton) and Associate Researcher atthe Centre for the Study of the Networked Image (LSBU).

She writes on audiovisual media and digital artefacts, including experimental film, algorithmic recommendation systems, games, screensavers and contemporary art. As an artist, she works with moving image, game engines and lecture-performances. She was co-curator of media art festival IMPAKT 2018 ‘Algorithmic Superstructures’ and Digital Earth Fellow 2020-2021. Currently she is working on a monograph on procedural images and on the themes of techno-animism and post-socialist mythologies.
