Digital colonization is based on an asymmetry of power relations. It follows the logic of market dominance and ecosystem exploitation. The increasing demand for integrated AI systems fosters a race to secure natural resources and collect data, labor, and expertise. Not only is our freedom at stake, but so is the future of our environment. With a growing and technologized global population, how long will our natural resources last? Can we use AI to decolonize and democratize instead of colonizing and autocratic? The Sustainability I - Digital Colonization and Ecology theme track addresses the questions around authoritarian capitalism and digital colonialism and takes a close look at the resources behind the use of AI.
