Society

AI systems are penetrating further and further into the various areas of our society, and it is no longer possible to imagine our living and working environments without them. Whether vacuum cleaner robots and self-driving cars, facial recognition software, or voice assistants, possible application areas are becoming increasingly diverse. At the same time, many AI systems are beyond our control as users, increasingly restricting our privacy and contributing to the perpetuation of social inequalities. But in the wake of these developments, how can AI be shaped for the common good of society? How can it be taught, developed, and used responsibly? And to what extent does this require (new) approaches to sovereign competence building, rules, and standards? The theme track "Society" sheds light on the (future) role of AI systems in our living and working worlds and addresses the question of how AI can be designed fairly.
