Lorenz Widmaier

PhD student in the 'Visual Sociology and Museum Studies Lab', Cyprus University of Technology

Lorenz Widmaier is a PhD student in the 'Visual Sociology and Museum Studies Lab' at the Cyprus University of Technology. In his empirical work, he investigates the significance of digital estates for the mourning and memory of bereaved persons as well as digital mourning and memory practices. He conducted 32 interviews with bereaved families and complemented the data set with photographs and screenshots taken during the interviews. His PhD is part of the European training network H2020 POEM. Until 2018, he worked in Berlin as a programmer, graphic designer and photographer and taught at the Institute for empirical Cultural Studies at the University of Hamburg. He studied photography and urban cultures at Goldsmiths College (London) and communication and cultural management at Zeppelin University (Friedrichshafen). More about his research at www.memoryanddeath.com
