Dr. Jannes Quer is currently a research associate at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Freie Universität Berlin. He is working on applications of machine learning in the life sciences in collaboration with John Maddocks from EPFL Lausanne. Dr. Jannes Quer started his academic career at the University of Lübeck. There he studied Coputational Life Science in his Bachelor's degree. He completed his Master's degree in Mathematics in Medicine and Life Sciences after two additional semesters abroad in Barcelona at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya with a specialization in Imaging and Image Processing in 2014. He subsequently worked at the Zuse Institute Berlin on Monte Carlo methods and stochastic optimization and completed his PhD in 2018 with the title 'Importance sampling for metastable dynamical systems in molecular dynamics'. After a foray into the private sector at the Deloitte Analytics Institute as a Data Scientist, he returned to academia. Besides working with numbers and algorithms, Dr. Jannes Quer is a versatile person and likes to spend his time practicing Judo, among other things.
