Alexander Kies is responsible for the FIAS Renewable Energy Systems and Artificial Intelligence (FRESNA) research group at the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies. He studied physics with a focus on theoretical semiconductor physics at the University of Bremen from 2007 to 2012. Afterwards, he received his PhD from 2013 to 2016 at the University of Oldenburg in the Department of Physics with a cumulative thesis on energy system analysis. Since 2016, he has been employed at FIAS, where he conducts research with his interdisciplinary and international research group on energy system modeling, energy meteorology, and artificial intelligence. A special focus of the research work is open source models and international cooperation projects in the interests of a sustainable future.
